NERC Alert System

NERC has created an Alert System to quickly disseminate important information to the industry (Registered Entities.) These alerts will be emailed to Registered Entities. It is recommended that each entity establish a company generic e-mail address solely for this purpose.

Since an alert may be sent at any time, your corporate alert email address should be manned around the clock. NPCC's Task Force on Infrastructure Security & Technology (TFIST) recommends that your corporate alert email address be attached to a corporate distribution list. TFIST suggests that your initial recipients forward NERC's alerts to your appropriate experts. Different Alerts will require different expertise such as Operations, Cyber Security, Physical Security, System Protection, Control Systems, etc.

NERC will send alerts from alerts@nerc.net. NERC Alerts have three levels:

  1. Industry Advisory
  2. Industry Recommendation
  3. Essential Action

Industry Advisory alerts are purely information, intended to alert registered entities to issues or potential problems. A response to NERC is not necessary. Industry Recommendations alerts recommend specific action be taken by registered entities. Essential Action alerts require specific action by Registered Entities and require NERC Board of Trustees approval prior to issuance.

TFIST is assisting NERC by requiring your company's alert email address when registering as a New Functional Model Entity. If you have any questions, you can send an email to alertssupport@npcc.org or call 212-840-1070
