NPCC Winter 2021-2022 Reliability Assessment Overview

Northeast Power Coordinating Council, Inc.’s (NPCC’s) annual Winter Reliability Assessment concludes that New England, New York, Ontario, Quebec and the Canadian Maritime Provinces will have adequate electricity generation and transmission capability to meet the forecast peak electricity demand this winter.

The assessment also analyzed system reliability in the low likelihood event of higher than expected electricity demand and severe system conditions, including an extended period of cold weather and lower fuel inventories. The assessment confirms that strategies and procedures are in place to address operational issues and mitigate emergencies, if they occur.

Throughout the winter months, NPCC will continue to closely coordinate and communicate with stakeholders to address real-time operating conditions to promote the reliability of NPCC’s bulk power system.
